EMERGENCY INFORMATION
"We could save up to 20% more lives."
Says Dr. Pförringer, an emergency physician from Munich who knows exactly what he is talking about. More often than you might think, someone is brought in unconscious – and nobody knows: Are there intolerances? Allergies? Pre-existing conditions? Or at least an emergency contact number to call?
With a smartphone, any doctor – or even the paramedic on the way to the hospital – could access vital data in seconds. And those seconds can make all the difference.
But how does this information get onto your implant? And how can it be read in an emergency? It's simple...
How do you store data on your implant?
Required products:
- Implant: xNT, NExT or xSIID
- Smartphone + App: e.g. NFC Tools (Android or iOS)
Instructions – how it works:
- Open the app – e.g. “NFC Tools” from the App Store or Google Play.
- Go to the "Write" tab and select "Add a record".
-
You now have several options:
- Text: Store information such as your blood type, allergies, medication plans, or diagnoses.
- Web address (URL): Link to a personal emergency info page with more details about you.
- Phone number: Save the number of a relative or trusted doctor who can provide emergency information.
It’s your choice – there is no right or wrong. Only what could help you in an emergency.
- Once your information is set, return to the main screen – tap "Write" and hold your smartphone over the implant. Done – the data is stored.
Difficulty level:
Low – no prior knowledge needed. Everything works directly via your smartphone.
How can the data be read?
Required device:
- Smartphone: Any NFC-enabled model (on Android: make sure NFC is activated)
Instructions – how it works:
- Hold the smartphone close to the implant – ideally at the spot where the NFC reader is located (on most Android devices at the top, on iPhones usually in the middle).
- The stored record will appear automatically – depending on what you have saved (text, phone number, website, etc.).
- No internet connection is required – the information is stored directly on the chip.
Difficulty level:
Low – works within seconds with any modern smartphone.
